Historically, the Lakers have been a winning franchise that, as a result, has typically drafted late in the draft (as teams with the best records do). In the mid-2010s, however, the Lakers struggled to win games and had multiple years where they drafted in the top part of the draft, netting them youngsters like Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball and Julius Randle. Still, in general the club has had to learn how to draft well later in drafts, which when it comes to their recent 2nd round selections, has worked out just fine for the club.
