Fast Fantasy Starts for 2010
Every year in baseball there is a group of players who start out red hot right out of the gate causing fantasy owners to spend their top waiver priorities on players in hopes that they will keep up their 162 homerun pace for the entire season. Of course, they never do and over the course of a 162 game season most players come down to earth and land within the range of what people expected them to do (production wise) for the season. That said, there are a few players (usually a young star or a veteran who is finally healthy after a season or two of below expected production) who manage to keep up their hot starts for the duration of the season and turn into a first week fantasy find for the owner who was ballsy enough to pick them up. This year, the top players out of the gates with a chance to cause havoc for opposing clubs all season long are:
- Vernon Wells: A former top 20 fantasy player who has battled injuries over the past year and a half, Wells is finally healthy and off to a blazing hot start with four home runs and 7 RBI’s through 3 games.
- Garret Jones: The 28 year old outfielder for the Pirates has three home runs and six RBIs in his first three games against a Dodger’s pitching staff that was one of the best in 2009.
- Chris Young: The padres hurler who had a miserable and injury filled 2009 campaign, pitched six 1-hit innings and notched 5 strikeouts in win during his first start of the season. The former 167 k performer with a career average ERA in the 3′s should rebound nicely from his miserable 2009.
